Bird Seed

Check your bird seed quality carefully, as sometimes cheap seed is not always the best. Often if you buy a bag you will find plenty of crushed maize and sorghum – you can be sure they are cheap fillers to bulk volume and make it seem a greater quantity!

A little bit of crushed maize is sufficient to keep the weavers happy, but they do prefer millet and manna. And sorghum?? – “The Dove and Pigeon attractor”. Very few other birds touch the sorghum. We would like to feed the doves too, but not so much as to cause over-breeding. Instead the smaller seed eaters will sift the cheap fillers out, and throw them to the ground, where pigeons will be waiting. Even worse the pigeons may inundate your bird feeder, and spoil your bird feeding routine.
